How to share Views/Details in Revit

Updated: Oct 29, 2023

I would like to share some tips that you might need to avoid the same process over and over. This function is called 'Insert from file' which allows you to bring the existing drafting views, schedules, sheets, etc from another project. It only works in the local file (not in the cloud), which means that if your file is on BIM360, you need to save it locally in order to use this function.

share views and details

It is important to understand this function since it enables you to save lots of time and maintain the same standard all over the projects.

  • Drafting view

  • Render

  • Schedule

  • Sheet

  • Detail Component

How to do it?

Bring the views.

  1. Open the file that you want to bring the standard in

  2. go to insert tap and select 'Insert from file' and choose 'insert views from file' if you want to bring the views.

  3. Open window will pop up, so find the Revit file that you want to take the views out and open it.

  4. Insert Views will pop up and choose the option so that you can filter out some views. There are the options that you can select:

    • Show all views and sheets

    • Show drafting views only

    • Show schedules and reports only

    • Show sheets only

  5. Select the views that you want to transfer into the project, and click 'ok'

  6. Now, you can see the views that you selected in project browser.

Bring the 2d details.

  1. Open the file that you want to bring the standard in

  2. Go to Insert tap and select 'Insert from file' and choose 'insert 2D Elements from file' if you want to bring the views.

  3. Open window will pop up, so find the Revit file that you want to take the 2D elements out and open it.

  4. Insert Views will pop up and select the views that contain the 2D elements and click 'ok'.

  5. Now the clipboard will appear on the screen, so place it where you want to locate, and click 'Finish'.

  6. Done.

To sum up

It will be time & cost saving once you have developed all the details and standards so that you can re-invent the wheels. That's why we are developing the construction elements for you to start with!! It will be online soon, so please keep an eye on the store page.
